Sally fell in love with the cello at the age of five. She was always encouraged by her family to pursue a career that was important to her and that had the potential to change the lives of others. “I was always made to feel as though it was incredibly important to play music and that I could change the world by doing so. It’s certainly been a better place for me to live in with music as a career.” Sally’s love of music is obvious from the great range of music she has played. However, it is in her solo performances that she plays the music closest to her heart. “Ever since I began to play, there have been certain pieces that I often return to. They provide great comfort and a sense of home”. Performing with an informal approach gives Sally the space to express her personality. Sally creates an intimacy with her audience and her belief that we all need music that nourishes the soul is infectious. As an article in The West Australian newspaper said: “Maer is part of a new breed bringing a refreshing, versatile approach to performances.” |
