When a young Ash_Lee broke his Mum's record player (they called them that in those days) trying to scratch Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band he got in trouble. His Mum lost her marbles, grabbed the wooden spoon out of the kitchen drawer and made bloodshed out of his mischievous behind. He wasn't even allowed to watch Rage anymore after getting the idea from the music video to Herbie Hancock's Rockit. Of course this didn't stop him. He vowed that one day he'd have a record player of his own and would make as much noise as he wanted. He kept this childhood promise to himself and now has not only one, but two record players and more vinyl than you can poke a wooden spoon at. With a collection covering all the influential genres that make him what he is today, it's no wonder the versatile selector has secured residencies at venues representing every corner of the musical spectrum. Ash_Lee is just as at home playing booty-jiggling hip-hop to the cool kids as he is busting out Johnny Cash at his Nan's retirement home. His knack for playing to any crowd has been welcomed by venues everywhere allowing him to explore the realms of funk, disco, house, soul, breakbeat, electro, techno, soulful-disco-tech-house-rockabilly-rave, post-punk-new-wave-glam-funk-rock and a bit of country & western. His one-off edits and remixes coupled with his diversity have earned him much respect from music lovers and Melbourne shufflers. Ash currently holds down residencies and regular guest spots at Lucky Coq, Baroq House, Mixed Messages Parties at Roxanne Parlour, Revolver, and Escobar. In the past he’s rocked venues such as Honkytonks, TFU, Brown Alley, Loop and Laundry, not to mention the Melbourne mecca festival Kiss My Grass. Along the way the in demand jock has supported international touring acts such Jamie Liddell (UK), Ark (France), Kid Dub (UK) and Deadmau5 (Canada) to name but a few. Ash also hosts a popular weekly radio show on Melbourne's Kiss FM, which has had guest appearances from electronic artists such as Audiojack (UK) and Jokers Of The Scene (Canada). With a lifetime of music knowledge at his disposal Ash also lends his writing skills to leading dance music magazine Zebra, interviewing touring artists and critiquing new release albums. But it’s not just in clubs, on air and in print that Ash has garnered a loyal following. His popularity at some of Melbourne’s leading corporate events for clients such as NAB, Mooks, Paul Frank, Mossimo and Stussy prove he can come to the party in any situation. Not to mention the soundtracks he has provided as DJ of choice for a number of fashion shows and parades, hair shows, children’s birthday parties, weddings and even a bar mitzvah!
