When I was a young whippersnapper my father used to affectionately call me ‘Never Sweat’. A lovely little nick name that alluded to my lack of interest in manual labour (and my hereditary under developed sweat glands). It would take me forever to do a task like mowing the lawns and then after much disgruntled arguing (yet never getting too worked up as to actually break a sweat) I would finally do it. Knowing that genetics blessed me with a lanky body that crumbles under the weight of any physical strain I realised that my mouth was the only pay earner I had (that line just left me open for some very bad toilet humour). I decided to start doing stand-up comedy because I got laughs at every other job I tried my hand at - why not make that the sole focus? Easy in theory. Hard in practice. Still I’m still doing it - chalk it up to a brilliant determination to not break a sweat. They say that a bio works better when you put it in the 3rd person. Screw that- I can’t afford to hire 2 other people! I’ll just write it and put ‘Dave’ in the place of ‘Me’* *I’ll also have to do that big noting thing that makes me look like a polished performer and that. Here goes…. With his accessible humour and free flowing style Dave has become a comic on the ascent in Australia. Although relatively new to the scene Dave has quickly gained attention through winning many accolades including • Winner of 2005 ‘Angling for a laugh’ competition held at the Anglers Tavern in Maribyrnong, Melbourne • Winner of 2005 ‘Search for Funny Bone’ competition held at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow in St Kilda, Melbourne • Second in the national ‘Green Faces’ competition held in Canberra 2005 • Winner of Campus Comedian of the year at the Tertiary Recreation Entertainment of Victoria (TREV) awards 2006 for best University comedian in Victoria • Appeared on Good Morning Australia (channel 10) • Performed at the Melbourne Cup special on ‘Stand-up Australia’ (The Comedy Channel) His solo performance debut at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival garnered him a nomination for ‘Best Newcomer’ for ‘Euromission’. Dave has worked with comedians of the calibre of Dave Hughes, Jimoen, Bob Franklin, Dave O’Neil, Rove, Dave Williams, Brad Oakes, Peter Helliar and many, many more. From regular spots at comedy clubs to social events, fundrasiers and corporate events, David is flexible enough to perform a variety of venues. Dave has also appeared on Season 5 of ‘Comedy Inc - The Late Shift.’ (channel 9) and appeared on national TV commercials. He is a Sagittarian who enjoys long walks in the park and getting caught in the rain. AFFIDAVID’S “A quick and self deprecating wit. An engaging comic with a truly Australian take on life..” - The Age “Dave is an absolute natural. He owns the stage, not because he tries to but because he just does.” - The Groggy Squirrel Comedy Review “He’s razor sharp and very funny.” - Inpress “We decided to ask Dave to be the main entertainment at our recent Corporate Christmas Party. This is our most significant event on the annual social calendar and included a mixed crowd of over 100 staff and associates. So it goes without saying that our expectations were high - and Dave did not disappoint. Dave interacts well with his audience, relates to all types and is just a down right funny bloke. I'd love to have him back for next year's Christmas do. Thanks Dave." - Melanie Kenter - Australia Post |
