The most successful jockey in Australia, Glen Boss, has overcome incredible, life threatening challenges and obstacles to ride his way into Australian history and our hearts.
From a Queensland country kid rounding up cattle on the family farm and winning ribbons at pony camp to his three Melbourne Cups on Makybe Diva, Glen Boss has become a living Australian legend.
But this champion jockey almost gave the game away when he struggled in the first years as a professional – he was ready to quit when a timely winning streak changed his mind.
Now having ridden more than 60 Group 1 races – including this year’s Golden Slipper and Doncaster Handicap – Glen has cemented his place as a favourite with punters, trainers and owners.
However, it was a near fatal fall in 2002 in a wet and rainy Macau that showed Glen’s true gutsy spirit and determination. With a broken neck and a devastating prognosis that he was unlikely to walk again, Glen defied the odds and was back riding trackwork within six months.
But it is his winning run on Makybe Diva, to take out the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Melbourne Cups, that Glen is most famous for. No other jockey in the almost 150- year history of the race that stops a nation has ever achieved such a brilliant feat.
Together the pair, along with leading trainer Lee Freedman, rewrote the history books about what is possible.
Winning one Melbourne Cup is any jockey’s dream. To win three in a row was beyond anyone’s imagination.
A dedicated family man, Glen is the loving father of two children and a devoted husband to his childhood sweetheart.
Now residing in Melbourne,Glen Boss is an amazing speaker and presenter.
From his unique relationship with the Diva, to the trials and triumphs he experienced in overcoming the accident, to the challenges he experienced as a country kid trying to break in the racing world, Glen’s fascinating life makes him a compelling corporate speaker.
Glen is available for corporate functions and events.
