Sukaro is led by Hungarian gypsy Joseph Tallosi on violin and also comprises Cat Kohn on piano accordion, Alex Yarosh on guitar, Ross Heatherington on guitar, and Charles Payne on double bass. We have played regularly (every Saturday lunchtime) at the Abbotsford Convent since the beginning of 2008 and have played at functions and street festivals throughout Greater Melbourne, including the bar mitzvah of Richard Pratt's grandson, a very large affair held at Raheen in February 2009.

All of the members of Sukaro have a long history in the music scene in Melbourne and internationally and the band members represent a cross-section of cultures and musical influences. Joseph began his musical career as a young boy in Hungary training rigorously in classical violin and later in his youth reconnected with his Gypsy background through the passionate music of the Easterm European Gypsies. But it wasn't until he discovered the Gypsy Swing music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli that he found his true passion. Cat picked up the piano accordion after having already studied the violin and viola for 11 years and in the 15 years since has completed an Advanced Diploma in Music Performance (Jazz and Contemporary) on the piano accordion and performed and recorded with many bands in Perth and Melbourne in many different styles including Contemporary Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Celtic, Acoustic Folk, Post-Rock and music for live theatre. Russian-born Alex is well known in the Melbourne jazz scene as a Contemporary Jazz guitarist and a strong soloist and regularly travels interstate to perform. Ross is a stalwart of the Melbourne Gypsy Jazz scene and his passion for the music sees him take part in many a gyspy jazz jam and he quite often performs with other local gypsy jazz groups including Bois et Charbon. Charles has also been plucking away at his double bass since he was a young feller and has a long history in the Melbourne Trad Jazz scene which has seen him perform on television as well as in jazz festivals Australia-wide.

All together, the members of Sukaro are a slick Gypsy Swing outfit that are lots of fun and can really take a corporate event, wedding reception or party to that extra level. Sukaro's upbeat (sometimes breakneck-speed!) music will bring a smile to the faces of guests young and old.
